Heroin is a drug derived from the poppy plant. It can enter the system through smoking, injecting and snorting. It has a black tar look and can range from color from brown to black. In purer forms, it is white in color. There are a number of side affects with the use of heroin the biggest being heroin addiction. Another one is being tired but wakeful and having heavy limbs. This drug us a downer as shown by its side effects. The euphoria associated with smoking the drug only lasts for a few moments.

Black tar Heroin

Heroin addiction is a horrible disease affecting many of the world population today. When a heroin user becomes a heroin addict it is an extremely hard battle to overcome. Their body starts to shut down. When coming down from heroin and withdrawing from it, many heroin drug addicts say that sometimes the symptoms are so intense that it makes them want to die.

The body has become used to having it in the system on a daily basis, like having water in the body. Heroin addiction is one of the hardest drugs to kick. Heroin addicts face the danger of heroin overdose because when injecting heroin they have no way of knowing how strong it is.

If you are thinking about quitting heroin it can take up to a week for all of the side effects of kicking the habit to subside. During this time you will be absolutely miserable unless you go to rehab for a medical heroin detox.

Heroin addiction is a very serious disease. It is one of the most addicting drugs in the world. If you now someone with a heroine addiction, try to find them help or it may prove to be fatal.

Good luck

Smoking heroin is often referred to as chasing the dragon a term that originated in Hong Kong and this is done by placing the heroin on a piece of foil and inhaling the heated vapor heroin when one is doing this the heat causes it to turn into liquid which moves around on the foil so therefore the term chasing the dragon. From my experience there are a lot of ways to become addicted to opiate drugs; for example, like shooting heroin, smoking heroin, or snorting heroin. But I am going to let you know a little bit about the dangers of smoking heroin.

Dangers of smoking heroin

More than a few drug addiction counselors who want to reduce the impairment that addicts cause themselves have advised them to smoke heroin rather than inject it, to avoid contracting AIDS and other diseases from sullied needles. The higher purity of heroin sold on the street has also led more users who fear overdosing from a heroin injection to start smoking heroin or snorting the drug instead.
But new evidence suggests that chasing the dragon or smoking heroin has its own misfortunes. Experts warn that heroin smokers can develop a deadly neurological condition that deprives them of muscle coordination and speech, and that if untreated can lead to paralysis and death.

I am not here to condone either of these methods of using heroin. I am here to help others learn how to stop using opiates like heroin.
If you have the desire to change your life and learn how to stop smoking heroin, I would suggest that you go to heroin addiction treatment. There you can be comfortably detoxed from heroin by people who are specially trained in this area. Upon arrival you will be administered medications to help ease the pain of heroin withdrawal. This process will take around 5 days during which time you will basically spend your time sleeping and recovering from the things you have put your body through.

This will not be enough to keep you clean I would recommend when you are finished with your detox that you attend residential treatment. There you will attend lectures, group, and some type of 12 step meetings designed to help you when you leave rehab so you do not return to smoking heroin. I suggest that you take action now

One of the most powerful pain relieving medications happens to be a drug called which happens to be the trade name for hydromorphone. Dilaudid is a derivative of morphine and is very potent opioid drug. Hydromorphone is also found in many other countries around the world with the trade names Hydal, Sophidone, Hydrostat Hydromorfan,Hydromorphan, Laudicon, Hymorphan, Opidol, Palladone.

Dilaudid addiction first came into play shortly after it was invented in Germany in 1914 by Knoll pharmaceuticals that marked their drug under the name of dilaudid. It is said to be very similar to morphine and is actually a derivative of it and dilaudid can be found in many cough suppressants today where it is also said to be helpful with painful dry coughing and bronchial problems.

Many doctors prescribe dilaudid for severe pain and a lot of cancer patients use this drug; in fact, many people become unknowingly addicted to dilaudid by taking it for the relief of pain. It has also become a favorite of many heroin addicts. They get this drug on the streets for about the price of a bag of heroin. They also Dr. seek, for those of you who do not know what this is it simply is going to several Dr’s and faking a severe pain then asking for dilaudid. Many of them already know the easy Dr’s who write for this drug. I know I did my research when I was drug seeking. I even went as far as to go to neighboring states where I knew a Dr’s would write a lot of scripts.

Now for those of you who think you want to overcome your dilaudid addiction and are ready to surrender to the fact that you can no longer use successfully; furthermore, this will take a lot of courage getting clean is hard and it takes a lot of work. I am here to tell you that the benefits of staying clean are in-numerous and you can start to enjoy life again without the use of drugs.

Ok here is to stop dilaudid first I would suggest that you go to a treatment center that will help detox you for dilaudid addiction that also has residential treatment. First thing to do is to find a rehab in your area ask them about insurance and also tell them you would like to be detoxed from dilaudid plus you would like to continue with residential treatment when you are finished with your dilaudid withdrawal.

First thing that will happen when you get to treatment is you will be given medication to help to ease the pain of your dilaudid addiction withdrawal the detox will take around 3 days and during that time you will not feel like doing much except lie around in bed. I will add here that you have nothing to fear because they will make you very comfortable and the pain of dilaudid withdrawal will be minimal. When you finish this its on to residential treatment where you will gain a lot of information that will help you to stay clean when you leave rehab.

This is just my opinion of course but it is based on my experience and therefore it has at least some validity to it.

The best way to quit smoking cigarettes is cold turkey. Now everyone who hears that will probably have some reaction to it, and most people will not like the idea much. They think that cold turkey quitting is for the birds, that it is terribly uncomfortable, and that it has a low rate of success.

Well, I am here to let you know that I tried several different methods for quitting smoking, and for me, the best way to quit smoking was cold turkey. In fact, it was the only thing that actually worked for me.

You see, the other things I tried, such as the patch and the gum and the medications and so on, they were all just playing games. I did not really want to quit smoking at the time, what I wanted was for something to make me want to quit smoking. Does that make sense? I was looking for a magic cure, and it does not really exist. If you want to quit smoking then you have to want to quit smoking in the first place. The drive has to come from deep within. You have to be sick of smoking and really want to change your life for the better. If you do not have this inner drive, this motivation, this deep level of desire, then all of the tricks and gimmicks in the world are not going to help you.

I would go so far as to say that all of the people who have successfully quit smoking with the patch or the gum or the medications, that they would have succeeded even if they had quit cold turkey. The props and the gimmicks are not what led to their success.

And so it is the same with any addiction…..just my 2 cents of course!

Early recovery can obviously have a lot of ups and downs but if you take a holistic and creative approach to your recovery then you can experience good things in your life. Many people get stuck in recovery and just do the same things over and over and never really grow as a person. What you want to do is to take a holistic view of your life, your health, and your overall recovery and branch out in to some new areas of growth and personal development. For example, you might be learning how to gain self confidence and thus will benefit greatly from setting a series of small goals in your life and then achieving them one by one. Or you might be identifying the different Types of Anger in your life and working hard to eliminate them so that you can live with more peace. A holistic approach is not limited to these types of things, but in fact is very expansive and can include just about any type of positive actions.

Consider your whole life and all of the areas in it. You have different aspects of your being that you can work on and try to grow, such as physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and so on. Each of these areas is important for balance in recovery, yet many mainstream recovery programs neglect certain aspects of this and focus heavily on spirituality instead. The spiritual aspect is important but it is just one piece of the puzzle. If you want to enjoy balance in recovery and build a strong foundation for sobriety then you should consider all aspects of your life, including those that go beyond the spiritual. For example, you might work on your fitness and nutrition, or your relationships and emotional balance. So don’t get stuck in your recovery, start exploring different methods of growth and development so that you can achieve some balance in your recovery and start growing holistically.

There is a growing body of evidence that points to the idea that recovery from addiction is a holistic process. This is not a popular idea yet and many people have never really considered it at all. In fact, the vast majority of the addiction recovery population is pretty well entrenched in the idea that recovery from addiction is best accomplished through the sort of hybrid model of recovery found in the 12 step programs. This is a combination of a social support group and also a spiritual program meshed into one. This pretty much dominates the recovery industry and, while it sounds like it has the potential to be a holistic approach, really does not branch out into distinct areas that could be considered holistic–such as physical health, nutrition, and so on.

For example, most people in the traditional recovery fellowships do not give much thought as to how to detoxify your body over the long term in the first few years of recovery. It can take several months to several years for some drugs to fully work their way out of the system. A true holistic approach would take the approach that a person can do certain things in order to gain the best possible long term health, in every area of their life, including this long term physical detox process.

The holistic approach to recovery is expansive and encompasses many techniques. It is not limited to what tools you have in your box right now. Explore the possibilities. For example, you might use hypnosis to stop smoking, or you might start a regular exercise program that leads to long term health benefits on a number of different levels.

The point is not to get stuck in one type of solution in your recovery, such as depending on regular 12 step meetings to keep you clean and sober when you should in fact be expanding your horizons (heck, go check into a wellness hotel if you think it will help!). Think broad. Think positive. Think holistically.

Anyone who wants to do well in drug rehab needs to know a couple of key pointers. These are things that I have witnessed over the years that seem to lead to positive outcomes for people. Now, understand that there are a whole lot more ways to screw this up than there are ways to do it right. If you want to stay clean and sober then it is sort of like walking a tightrope. You gotta do it just right, or you’re toast.

The first thing I would suggest is that you take the suggestions from the staff, the therapists, and the other recovering addicts at the rehab (especially any recovering addicts with significant clean time) and actually do what they tell you to do. This is especially helpful if you are younger and attending a teen drug rehab in which everyone thinks they know all the answers anyway.

Your best ideas about how to live and how to be happy got you all messed up and landed you in rehab….so what makes you think that you have all the answers? You don’t….so try listening to other people’s self help story and see what you can get out of it. In many cases you will get something from just about every single person that you meet in rehab if you are only willing to learn from them and see what kind of message they are bringing to you. Even those with toxic ideas and bad attitudes can be shining examples of how not to behave in recovery. If you are open and willing to find the lesson then you can gain a wealth of knowledge from a random group of addicts. This is the magic the process and this is what makes it work so well.

There seems to be a few choices when you get right down to the actual detox from heroin and that is for those of you who have come to depend on heroin.

One of the best options by far is to find a treatment center in your vicinity. Give them a call and find out how you would pay for it by this I mean funding and so forth.

Next you will want to get checked in. If you can not afford to pay or have no insurance most treatment centers accept Medicaid.

If you happen to get checked in to the local drug rehab they will more than likely do heroin detox . This should take anywhere from 4 to 8 days. They will use prescription meds to help manage your heroin withdrawals. You might also consider eating a healthy diet during this time of detox. You might even consider some of those protein shakes for dieters that you see just to give you some nutrients.

If you choose this route to it will be to your advantage because if you attend the residential treatment setting they will also show you ways in which you can live clean without the use of drugs and get support from others.

In my opinion if you only detox from heroin you will still have a mental dependence on the drug if you want to beat this you will have to get involved with your recovery. Putting down the drug is just one symptom of addiction.

Heroin rapid detox

There are a couple new ways to detox out there today one of which is called heroin rapid detox and the other is ultra rapid detox.

Do not be confused these to sound a like but they are very different. With heroin rapid detox you are looking at a 3 to 5 day detox that will be managed with medications. Ultra rapid detox is a process where the heroin addict is under anesthesia for the entire withdrawal.

This is idea may sound to good to be true and it may very well be because there are no magic cures. With this procedure you will be detoxed entirely while you are sleeping and when you wake up it is possible you will still have withdrawal.

It is also more expensive than alternative forms of treatment and it is potentially dangerous to be under anesthesia for so long. Some people have actually died during this procedure.

One more option is to go heroin cold turkey. This is where you withdrawal without any type of medications however it is very hard way to go. It would be a challenge to your mind as well as the body.

Which ever method you choose to stop using heroin just remember it takes action to remain clean and sober.

Is it ever necessary to go to rehab for marijuana use?

Some would say no, it isn’t. They base this response on some of the following ideas:

1) There is no physical withdrawal with quitting marijuana

2) There is no potential for overdose with marijuana

3) Most people do not get strung out on marijuana to the point that they become homeless, lose jobs, lose marriages, etc. The immediate effects from the drug are not as devastating as with other drugs such as alcohol, cocaine, or heroin.

But in spite of all this, it still makes sense for some people to go to marijuana rehab. If their life is out of control and they are seriously sidetracked from attaining their goals, then rehab might be just the diversion that they need in order to get back on track.

Ideally, rehab for weed would be a long term setting in which a person can get back to living a “normal” life without the lifestyle of smoking weed every day. Getting past this daily ritual is an important part of recovery. We used to self medicate every day by smoking weed, and now we have to learn how to deal with life on our own terms. This is not necessarily easy to do but this is the process of recovery. Our reward is true freedom if we can learn how to live a new way of life. Long term treatment is one of the best settings for doing this, especially if you are a young person. Without long term, it will be difficult or even impossible to walk away from all of your friendships and using buddies in active addiction and start any kind of new life for yourself. It is far easier to just continue to use the drugs for most people.

Do you have a friend or loved one who you think might be a closet alcoholic? Maybe you’ve noticed some suspicious behavior, or maybe they are just drinking more than usual in front of you, but still hiding their consumption from the rest of the world. At any rate, you have become suspicious for some reason, and you want to look into it further.

What signs are there that you can look for to confirm this?

1) For one thing, look for the obvious first: heavy drinking. If the person is drinking large amounts of alcohol, and you are noticing it more and more frequently, then this is your biggest clue right there.

2) Calling in sick to work or avoiding normal obligations. If the person is ducking their responsibilities more and more often, such as missing appointments or calling in sick to work on a regular basis, then this is another sign that they might be a closet alcoholic.

3) Ducking out early from commitments - this is a sign that someone wants to or needs to go start drinking. If they just don’t stick around like they used to, perhaps this is the reason for it? If they are hiding their drinking then they need to get away from people so they can isolate more and more often.

4) Isolation. They are a closet drinker so they need to be alone as much as possible. So if you notice someone isolating a lot then this can be another sign.

5) Tendency to lie about their drinking – if someone continues to lie to you about their drinking, then this is another strong indicator that there is a real problem there.

Basically, the closet drinker is in denial, and they are lying both to themselves and to the rest of the world. They generally believe that they do not have a real problem, because they have been able to basically keep it MOSTLY under control for so long. They have not really been “found out” and exposed as the full fledged alcoholic that they really are, so their denial is much stronger than it would be in many other drinkers. They are still trying to hold things together and prove to themselves and to the rest of the world that they are not really a true alcoholic. Well, this doesn’t really fly if you know what to look for and you pick up on all the clues.
