Heroin Addiction

Heroin is a drug derived from the poppy plant. It can enter the system through smoking, injecting and snorting. It has a black tar look and can range from color from brown to black. In purer forms, it is white in color. There are a number of side affects with the use of heroin, the biggest being physical dependence and heroin abuse. Another one is being tired but wakeful and having heavy limbs. This drug us a downer as shown by its side effects. The euphoria associated with smoking the drug only lasts for a few moments. Anyone who is seriously hooked on the drug may want to seek out some heroin addiction help, in form of professional treatment services or drug rehab.

Black tar Heroin

Addiction is a horrible disease affecting many of the world population today. When a heroin user becomes a heroin addict it is an extremely hard battle to overcome. Their body starts to shut down. When coming down from heroin and withdrawing from it, many heroin drug addicts say that sometimes the symptoms are so intense that it makes them want to die. Certainly it is difficult to make it through this type of detox without some sort of professional help.

The body has become used to having opiates in the system on a daily basis, like having water in the body. Because the withdrawal symptoms are so intense, this makes it one of the hardest drugs to kick. Heroin addicts face the danger of overdose because when injecting the drug they have no sure way of knowing how strong it is.

If you are thinking about quitting heroin it can take up to a week for all of the side effects of kicking the habit to subside. During this time you will be absolutely miserable unless you go to rehab for a medical detox.

Heroin detox options

There are some fancy new procedures out there that are called ultra rapid detox. This is where a doctor puts the addict under and flushes their body from all drugs within a matter of hours. The detox process is over with instantly and the addict normally wakes up with very little pain or withdrawal symptoms. This sounds like an appealing option but the method is riddled with controversy. For one thing, some people have died during the procedure, and there is no guarantee against relapse after the procedure is over with. In fact, the chances for relapse may be greater because there is no memory of pain during the withdrawal process as a disincentive to return to using.

Not everyone can afford a trip to drug rehab, but not everyone will have to. In some cases, you can find funding agencies that will pay for your trip to detox if you do not have insurance or Medicaid. The best way to find out about this is to call up drug rehabs in your area and ask them what your options are. Do not just assume that you cannot afford to go treatment, because it might be the case that you can secure funding through state or government programs.

It is one thing to go through detox and actually get the drug out of the body, but this does not help much if they addict leaves rehab and simply goes out and uses heroin again. If this is the case and you find yourself relapsing over and over again, then you might need additional addiction help beyond just detox. For example, you might go to residential treatment, group therapy, NA meetings, or even live in a long term rehab center. These are all options that might enable you to break through your pattern of constant relapse.

Heroin addiction is a very serious disease. It is one of the most addicting drugs in the world. If you now someone who is struggling with it, try to find them help or it may prove to be fatal.

Good luck.
